We completely understand that coming to Physiotherapy can sometimes seem daunting. But don’t worry – you’re in good hands! To help put your mind at ease, we’ve prepared our responses to some common questions about physiotherapy. We hope you find them helpful.
Physiotherapy is the branch of health that evaluates, treats and prevents different injuries and disabilities. Physiotherapists are experts in the functioning and movement of the human body. These work as a team with the patient to overcome movement disorders that may have been present since birth, after an accident or injury, or are simply the result of age and changes in lifestyle that are presented.
Physiotherapy is a health care profession that assesses, diagnoses, treats, and works to prevent disease and disability. Physiotherapists are expert in movement and function. They work in partnership with patients, assisting them to overcome movement disorders which may have been present at birth, acquired through accident or injury, or are the result of ageing or life-changing events.
A doctor’s referral is not necessary to see a Physiotherapist in private practice, although we frequently work in partnership with your doctor to plan and manage treatment for a specific condition.
To begin, your Physiotherapist will assess your condition, diagnose any problems and help you understand what is wrong. They will work with you to develop a treatment plan that takes into account your lifestyle, goals, leisure activities and general health.
Throughout your treatment program, your Physiotherapist will evaluate your progress at regular intervals and modify your treatment and goals accordingly. Wherever possible, your Physiotherapist will also help you to manage your condition independently for the longer term.
Depending on the type of treatment, your initial appointment will last from 30 to 60 minutes. For your first visit, please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment to complete admission paperwork, so we can get you into the Physio on time.
Standard follow-up appointment times at Fisiocare are 40-60 minutes. Some complex conditions or treatment of multiple areas may require longer consultations; if this is the case your Physiotherapist will discuss your options with you.
During each session, your Physiotherapist will discuss your treatment plan and suggest an optimal follow-up appointment time to assist in your recovery. However, sometime doctors ask for daily therapies or 3 times a week, if this is your case we´ll make team with your doctor for optimal recovery. Then, at the end of each visit, you should check in with our administration team to re-schedule your next appointment.
It is our policy to schedule you with the same Physiotherapist over the course of your treatment. Occasionally, substitutions must be made because of illness and holidays, but we will inform you of this as early as possible. On other occasions, your Physiotherapist may recommend that you visit with another member of the team, who has additional expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of your condition. If, at any time over the course of your treatment, you would prefer to visit with another Physiotherapist, please inform our administration team and they can re-schedule an appointment for you.
In order to accommodate each patient’s schedule and for the efficient operation of our practice, reserving time slots for treatments is very important. That time slot is held specifically for you. If you do need to cancel and reschedule, please give 24 hours notice
After 3 cancel appointments our system will eliminate any future appointment on your name so please notify us if you are coming to the appointment so we can hold the space for you, if the space is already given to other patient we will reschedule in other space available of your convenience.
We want you to be comfortable – unrestrictive or athletic clothing is highly recommended for all sessions. This allows your Physiotherapist to properly assess the area being treated. For low back, hip and lower limb problems loose, unrestrictive shorts are suitable. For neck and shoulder problems, a singlet is ideal. We also recommend comfortable footwear, preferably without a heel.
To make things easy for you, we have provided the following checklist. Please review it and bring along all relevant items to your appointment:
A Doctor’s referral or other referrals or reports: related to your condition
Recent X-rays, CT, ultrasound or MRI scans: related to your condition
Private health fund card: if you have private health extras cover
Cash, debit card or credit card
